Autonomous Learning – Let us understand it better…

The primary focus of modern education process is to provide learners with an
opportunity for continuous learning and enabling them with the potential for
continued growth. The thought process of academicians and practitioners are
aimed at making the modern education accept the progressive educational
model, which would help in marking the learner’s subjective development.
The Autonomy model itself can act as a great tool in understanding the Self-
directedness approach which would mainly focus on individual development.
The student development can be achieved by means of self-directed learning.
In the process of becoming self-directed, the learner must embrace the feeling
of freedom expressed by their autonomous curriculum.
Modern education is currently becoming a vital phenomenon in everyone’s life.

understand the perception of student needs.
There has been a demand for new ways of learning from many different parts of
society. College teachers have expressed concerns about attendance in class,
uncompleted reading assignments, and student focus on grades rather than

table, schedule, and then reaching out to the resources that can help them in the
process. These resources can be in the form of help from subject teachers,
parents, online sources etc.
As Autonomous education allows students to take control of their learning, it
also promotes responsibility, accountability, and self-motivation within them.
This is because the perfect way by which students can learn these skills at a young age is by making decisions, rather than following prescribed directions.
Autonomous learning allows the students to become independent thinkers, who
continuously take on new challenges to improve their knowledge and skills –some vital capabilities for strengthening society.
In the process, students can evaluate their performance and understand where
they are falling behind. As the corporate world is becoming far more
competitive, education and learning models should be moulded in a way to cater
to the changing dynamics.

Thinking about the characteristics of what young students should have, we are
left wondering whether these qualities will help them to fit in their careers. Be it
more freedom, confidence, self-motivation, or responsibility. The autonomous
education or learning model is designed in such a way that it fosters the
learners’ abilities to take control of their learning, mould it according to their
needs, and make the best out of it. And this is where autonomous education
plays a key role in the future of higher education.
